Laura Houchens
Professional Development for Educators

When most teachers hear the words "professional development", there is an inward, or possibly an outward, GROAN.  It doesn't have to be this way.  Professional development should do what the name implies...develop the profession of the attendee--in this case, the teacher.  What if the PD was given by an actual teacher, with actual teaching experience, who could relate to the day in and day out stresses of being in the classroom?

I don't like to call my workshops "professional development."  A better name, in my opinion, would be "real ideas from a real teacher."  To me, it is always difficult to take advice from someone who has never "been there."  I've been there, and I plan to share with you what I have learned; hopefully, my ideas will help you as well.

My workshops are centered around my actual classroom practices, so you will never leave without at least one activity that can immediately be put to use in your classroom.  (Isn't that innovative for PD?)  You will find my workshops effective, fun, useful, classroom-based, and teacher-friendly.
